Steven Biko was assassinated by the apartheid S. African government while in police detention in September 1977. His early political activities include, founding the S. African Students’ Organization, which provided legal aid and medical clinics and developed cottage industries in black communities. He went on to work with the Black Peoples’ Convention and his work led to his arrest. He sustained head injuries during an interrogation and died in custody. Worldwide he became a martyr and became a powerful symbol for the anti-apartheid movement. The Truth and Reconciliation Committee found his death to be “gross human rights violation”. Light refreshments will be served after the movie.
